Moriah’s Story

This was my second year getting to be a counselor at Anxious for Nothings Camp, this years theme was “Light a Fire” and it was so evident that this was going to be different than the previous year. We have been having groups after the message on Friday nights and that has provided opportunities to actually build relationships with the kids on a consistent basis so a lot of the kids that came were like family already.

I truly believe the Lord set that up on purpose because we got deep at camp, Karla was the main speaker and the  messages were full of truth and conviction. Sharing the dangers of living like the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) warning the kids of what can happen if you decide to go “find yourself” apart from God. That can lead to such emptiness but when we are surrendered to Jesus, when we are walking following after Him we walk with authority receiving Gods direction and purpose for our lives.

I witnessed the kids at camp hunger and thirst for the Lord and receive His Spirit, receive His healing. My husband, who was also a counselor, and I got to share hard truths about the effects of pornography and how God calls us to purity in our hearts and minds and as we shared this the Lord broke off chains from hidden sin. Kids were confessing and receiving freedom, something Karla had shared was so impactful- “you are not your thoughts or temptations, you DECIDE to sin with action”. The Lord kept giving freedom as the kids kept making decisions to live righteously.

By the last day of camp, everyone looked different, it was beautiful. As we had a time of testimony child after child went up and boldly shared how Jesus lifted off the weight they were carrying. Some shared how during their time at the altar they felt Gods hand on their shoulder and again, the heaviness was lifted off. Jesus met them there with truth and redeemed them with His forgiveness and love. He is faithful and mighty to save and I am so excited to see how each one that came to camp this year continues to walk out the call God has placed on their lives to go “Light a Fire”.
